PET/CT

PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography) is a modern Molecular Imaging technique. By combining the functional information provided by PET with the anatomical information provided by CT, it offers complementary information that contributes to the diagnosis, staging, and monitoring of disease progression and treatment response across a broad range of conditions.

PET/CT is primarily used in oncology for:

• Diagnosis
• Staging and restaging
• Selection of the biopsy site
• Investigation of an unknown primary neoplasm
• Assessment of the degree of malignancy
• Evaluation of treatment response
• Prognostic assessment
• Early detection of recurrence
• Definition of radiotherapy treatment fields

PET/CT also has applications in neurology and cardiology, as well as in the investigation of inflammatory and infectious diseases, contributing to the implementation of Precision Medicine and personalized therapeutic approaches.

The PET/CT Department of IASO General Clinic is equipped with the new GE HealthCare Discovery MI Gen2, an advanced digital hybrid PET/CT system designed for Molecular Imaging applications.

The system incorporates second-generation digital SiPM detectors, Time of Flight (ToF) technology, the Q.Clear image reconstruction algorithm, MotionFree™ technology, and the Auto IN automated positioning system. These technologies support high-quality imaging and diagnostic assessment, including the detection of small lesions, while contributing to shorter examination times and reduced radiation exposure for the patient.

The Department uses modern specialized radiopharmaceuticals, including FDG, PSMA, and DOTATATE, as well as specialized tracers for neurological applications, supporting diagnostic evaluation according to the condition under investigation and the individual needs of each patient.

The Department also has the capability for in-house radiopharmaceutical synthesis using a dedicated Ge68/Ga68 generator.
