On the occasion of the first year of operation of the Laparoscopic Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Unit, the 2nd Surgery Department, IASO General Clinic offers 5 free-of-charge surgeries, for the treatment of morbid obesity, to patients who meet specific financial criteria.

The action is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility program "By Your Side" and aims to raise public awareness with regard to the very serious impact of obesity on people's health and quality of life. The free-of-charge surgeries will be performed by the Director of the 2nd Surgery Department - Laparoscopic Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Unit, Mr. Konstantinos Albanopoulos, Associate Professor of Surgery, and his surgical team.

The department has expertise and extensive experience in bariatric and metabolic surgery and aims to offer high-level medical services by using minimally invasive surgical techniques. Internationally recognized fast-track patient recovery protocols are applied, which lead to the minimization of the patients' stay in the hospital, through innovative techniques and by always having the patient's safety as a principle.

Obesity is a serious chronic disease, characterized by an increase in body weight with accumulation of body fat, to such an extent that the person’s health is adversely affected. It is now proven that morbid obesity – apart from the problems that the weight itself creates in the patient's quality of life - increases the risk of developing diseases or worsens already existing ones, such as type II diabetes (T2D), arterial hypertension (AH), dyslipidemia, coronary artery disease (CAD), heart failure, strokes, sleep apnea, etc.

Bariatric surgery is a safe treatment for morbid obesity, when it is performed in specialized centers, by experienced teams.
