In collaboration with the Scientific Committees of IASO and IASO General, the Hellenic Oncology Research Group is organizing the ‘1st Post-educational Conference on Therapeutic Advances in Oncology’ on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 January 2016, at the Events Hall of IASO (37-39, Kifissias av, Maroussi). The conference is held under the auspices of the Hellenic Society of Pathology, the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology, the Hellenic Society of Surgical Oncology and the Hellenic Society of Radiation Oncology. This multidisciplinary cooperation aims to feature all the significant advances in the management of cancer and stress the importance of multidimensional approach to the patient.

The President of the Conference’s Organizing Committee is Mr. Vassileios Georgoulias, Professor Emeritus of Medical Oncology, School of Medicine, University of Crete, Chief of the 1st Department of Oncology at IASO General. The Vice-president of the Organizing Committee is Mr. Christos Papadimitriou, Professor, School of Medicine, University of Athens, and Scientifically Responsible for the Department of Medical Oncology at IASO. Top physicians of various medical specialties (oncologists, radiotherapists, gynecologists, pathologists, urologists, hematologists, etc) as well as highly-experienced nursing staff will participate as speakers. The multi-faceted and comprehensive management (multidisciplinary approach) of neoplastic diseases sufferers is now established and critically contributes to the therapeutic effects.

Over the last years, the great advances in biology, with the decoding of the human genome and the understanding of the basic mechanisms of carcinogenecis and the system’s defense against the ‘non-self’, along with the huge technological progress, have significantly enriched the medical armory against cancer. However, constant and intensive research, updating and rapid consolidation of new knowledge ability in everyday medical practice are required; needs, which the conference in question aspires to cover.
