The Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at IASO Children’s Hospital and Athens Heart Surgery Institute, under the direction of the world-renowned Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon, Dr. Giorgos Sarris, holder of multiple scientific distinctions (Harvard MD, PhD, FACC, FACS, FAHA, FCTS, FETCS), is now the only Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Center in Greece certified according to the European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association and numbers amongst the few certified Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Centers throughout Europe.

High quality healthcare services are the main priority for IASO Group. Dr. Sarris, Chief of Athens Heart Surgery Institute, who, as of July 2013, has undertaken the establishment and direction of the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at IASO Children’s Hospital, has been applying a strict quality assurance program on all pediatric cardiac surgeries performed by his team, for many consecutive years. Within the context of this multilateral program, the data of every pediatric cardiac surgery performed at the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at IASO Children’s Hospital by Dr. Sarris and his team, are unfailingly reported to the Congenital Database of the European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association.

Even more significant and completely indicative of the exceptionally high-level surgeries performed by Dr. Sarris is that, like only a handful other European pediatric cardiac surgeons, he voluntarily submits the results of his surgeries for inspection by competent independent reviewers of the European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association, in order to assure the quality of the surgeries and the accuracy of the statistical results. The aforementioned practice is a standard voluntary procedure for Dr. Sarris’ team, and this certifies and confirms his acknowledgement by the entire scientific community for the high-level pediatric cardiac surgeries he performs.

The intensive procedure of investigating and certifying the surgical results delivered by Dr. Sarris’ team was successfully completed and, on 3 November 2015, Dr. Zdzislaw Tobota, Technical Director at the ECHSA Congenital Database, awarded Dr. Sarris the relevant Certificates of the European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association for the Accreditation of Pediatric Cardiac Surgeries.
