The 4^th Cardiology Clinic of IASO General Clinic, with extensive experience in the transcatheter treatment of structural heart diseases — meaning disorders of the aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valves, paravalvular leaks, and atrial septal defects — continues to break new ground in the field of interventional cardiology.

Following its certification by the Central Board of Health (KESY) as a Transcatheter Heart Valve Implantation Center, the Clinic has already performed, as of January 27^th, 2026, four transcatheter aortic valve replacements, while additional cases have been scheduled for the coming weeks.

Specifically, Mr. Emmanouil Vavouranakis, Professor Emeritus of Cardiology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Interventional Cardiologist, and Director of the 4^th Cardiology Clinic, together with the two participating interventional cardiologists, Mr. Anastasios Marathonitis, Consultant, and Mr. Konstantinos Kalogeras, Associate of the Clinic, proceeded with the implantation of cutting-edge technology valves, depending on each patient’s anatomy, and achieving excellent outcomes and a short hospitalization period of just three days. The following valve systems were used in the procedures:

1. Medtronic Evolut FX + Valve, with a special design that allows access to the coronary arteries even after implantation. This is the most advanced valve in its category and the first to be implanted in a private hospital in Athens.
2. Edwards SAPIEN 3 Ultra RESILIA Transcatheter Heart Valve, with innovative technological processing that provides exceptional durability and prevents calcification in the tissue.
3. Medtronic Evolut FX Valve, with proven excellent long-term outcomes.

The procedures were completed with simultaneous coverage by cardiac surgeons, Mr. Ioannis Chlorogiannis, MD, PhD, Cardiac Surgeon, Coordinating Director, 1^st Cardiac Surgery Clinic, IASO General Clinic, and Mr. Georgios Anastasiadis, Cardiac Surgeon, Consultant, 1^st Cardiac Surgery Clinic, IASO General Clinic. Significant contributions were also made by the anesthesiologists of IASO General Clinic, Mr. Chrysovalantis Pothitakis and Mr. Vasilis Kyriakopoulos, as well as by Mr. Antonios Papageorgiou, Vascular Surgeon, Director, 2^nd Vascular Surgery Clinic, IASO General Clinic, Head, Vascular Surgery Department, IASO Children’s Hospital.

The contribution of the entire personnel of the Cardiac Catheterization Department, of IASO General Clinic, under the supervision of Mr. Panagiotis Alexandropoulos, as well as of the specialized personnel of the Intensive Care Unit, under the direction of Mr. Stavros Aloizos, was particularly decisive.
