IASO General Clinic: Robotic mastectomy and reconstruction

A pioneering Robotic double Mastectomy and Reconstruction was successfully performed at IASO General Clinic on a 42-year-old woman who is a carrier of the BRCA1 gene, which is responsible for hereditary breast cancer, with the use of the Da Vinci Xi robotic system.
The surgery was performed by Mr. Georgios Metaxas, Breast Surgeon, Director of the 3rd Breast Clinic of IASO General Clinic, and his team, under the supervision of the pioneer of the technique, Dr. Antonio Toesca, Director of the Breast Unit at the Candiolo Cancer Institute in Turin, Italy.
The team included: Mr. Nikolaos Moustakis, Plastic Surgeon; Ms. Evi Theochari-Galanopoulou, Director, Anesthesiology Department; Mr. Panagiotis Charalampopoulos, Collaborating Anesthesiologist; Mr. Ioannis Papapanagiotou, Gynecologist; Mr. Vangelis Vlachaitis, Deputy Head, Anesthesiology Department; Mr. Georgios Matsaidonis, Instrument Nurse; Ms. Smaragda Bousi and Ms. Evangelia Epitropaki, Surgical Nurses.
With the robotic system, the mastectomy and breast reconstruction are performed through a barely visible 3 cm incision under the armpit, with great precision, less postoperative pain, better preservation of skin and nipple sensation, and a lower risk of local complications. The patient was mobilized the day the surgery took place and discharged the next morning.
