    Specialization in Interventional Cardiology, with participation in the hemodynamic laboratory program of the University Cardiology Clinic, and extensive experience in the interventional management of coronary artery disease, complex angioplasties (chronic total occlusions, left main disease, bifurcation lesions, calcified lesions, use of Rotablation, IVL), intracoronary imaging, and the use of fully absorbable stents. Also experienced in structural heart diseases, with emphasis on transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI) and transcatheter mitral valve repair. Additionally, trained in performing various diagnostic tests, such as echocardiography – adult and pediatric heart and ascending aorta triplex, in the Echocardiography Laboratory (color Doppler, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography), stress tests, rhythm Holter monitoring in the Pacemaker Laboratory, and blood pressure Holter monitoring.

    In the research field, main areas of interest include vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque, experimental models of coronary artery disease, aortic stenosis, and the epidemiology of coronary artery disease and structural heart diseases, as well as arterial hypertension

    Research work. Research protocols

    1. Experience abroad. During his post-training in Atlanta, USA: Dealing with experimental models of atherosclerosis, as well as with histochemical and morphological analyzes of atherosclerotic lesions, in the vascular wall of experimental animals with or without angiotensin-inhibiting enzyme. With the aim of stratifying cardiovascular risk as correctly and accurately as possible, organizing the database of patients who were admitted to the chest pain clinic at Emory Hospital and were evaluated with dynamic cardiac ultrasound, positron emission tomography or dynamic cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. During my training in Emory, I was the main author in 12 publications in peer review international journals. 
    2. Collaboration at the Laboratory of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Medical Statistics of the University of Athens: Participation in research programs concerning cardio-oncology issues with a focus on cardiotoxicity in surviving cancer patients diagnosed in childhood
    3. Design, organization and implementation of the HELIOS study (Hellenic Infarction Observation Study) with the aim of recording and studying acute myocardial infarction in Greece. The study was conducted for 12 months in 31 Hospitals under the auspices of the Hellenic Cardiology Society, taking into account the proportional representation of all the departments of the country, the seasonal distribution of the population and the distribution of beds in Hospitals with and without a hemodynamic laboratory.
    4. Design, organization and implementation of the CLIMATE study (Climate Impacts on Myocardial infarction deaths in the Athens Territory) with the aim of assessing the role of meteorological parameters in the incidence of acute myocardial infarction in the Athens area.
    5. Design and participation of the DIRECT study (Pre-Dilatation Versus No Pre-Dilatation for Implantation of a Self-Expanding Valve in All Comers Undergoing TAVR: The DIRECT Trial) which compared predilation versus direct transcatheter prosthetic valve implantation in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement. This Randomized Control Trial resulted that direct, without balloon pre-dilatation, transcatheter aortic valve replacement with a self-expanding prosthesis system is noninferior to the pre-dilatation procedure. 
    6. Design, organization and implementation of the Epidemiology, reperfusion management, and outcomes of patients with myocardial infarction in Greece: The ILIAKTIS study. ILIAKTIS is a national, prospective, multicenter, noninterventional study conducted under the auspices of Hellenic Society of Cardiology (HCS) and the European Initiative Stent - Save a Life. This study aimed to prospectively record the demographic and clinical characteristics of a representative sample of patients suffering from AMI, their management, and short-term outcomes.
    7. Design and Participation in the Computed tomoGRaphy guidEd invasivE Coronary angiography in patiEnts with a previous coronary artery bypass graft surgery trial (GREECE trial): This is a multicenter, randomized control trial that ims to compare CCTA-guided ICA (CTgICA) versus the ICA alone. It is a multicenter, randomized, controlled study which was conducted in 9 Greek hospitals for 24 months. The  aim was to investigate whether the information obtained by CCTA will guide invasive coronary angiography  in everyday clinical practice, targeting on decision-making with less amount of administered contrast agent, less duration of the procedure and absorbed radiation dose.
    8. Publications to date in peer-reviewed journals, document the wide range of research activity in cardiology, with emphasis on interventional cardiology, pathophysiology of coronary and valvular disease, experimental cardiology, cardiomyopathies, epidemiology and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The publications in international journals that came from my work so far and are related to the above fields are presented in detail below
