Bone Densitometry (DEXA)

Diagnostic Department
Bone Densitometry (DEXA)

Bone densitometry is a non-invasive procedure which is used to measure bone density. It is suitable for women over 40 years old, post-menopause. The measurement may also be useful to people with or without osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) to assess the risk of a fracture and evaluate the results of treatment.

Bone densitometry at IASO Thessalias is performed with a specially designed machine which uses the dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) technique. It is the quickest technique with the minimum radiation exposure. The results are available immediately, while it is possible to compare previous results for the extraction of conclusions with respect to the progress of the administered treatment.

This device ensures:

  • Quick measurement (one area in 30 seconds),
  • High precision and excellent resolution,
  • Extremely low radiation dose.
