The Nephrology Department aims to provide high-level medical and nursing services to patients with kidney diseases.

The Department consists of the Artificial Kidney Unit, the glomerulonephritis Office, the Outpatient nephrology Office, the Outpatient transplant Office, the pre-transplant screening Office, the Emergency Outpatient Nephrology and transplant Office, the nephrolithiasis and metabolic disorders Office, the Vascular Assessment and Access Finding Clinic [fistulae, graft, permanent or temporary jugular, subclavian or femoral vein catheter].

Patients with kidney diseases are treated at the Clinic. These patients, with diseases located exclusively or mainly in the kidneys such as glomerulonephritis, interstitial nephritis, polycystic kidney disease, etc. or with other serious diseases that affect - not only but also - the kidneys such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple myeloma, etc., present or not with kidney failure of varying severity (stages 1 to 5, the latter being end-stage renal disease). In the aforementioned patients, an attempt is made to establish an accurate diagnosis with laboratory, imaging and in some cases pathological screening (kidney biopsy) and they are treated with suitable international treatment protocols.

At the Outpatient department:

Patients with glomerulonephritis are systematically monitored at the glomerulonephritis Office and the other patients who need regular check-ups are referred to the Outpatient Nephrology Office, where they are monitored on a long-term basis, by appointment. In the same treatment Office, many other patients with nephrological problems, who have not been hospitalized at the clinic but wish to come for check-up - treatment at IASO Thessalias, by appointment, are also monitored.
