NICU scientific lecture at IASO Thessalias
Advancing Perinatal and Neonatal Care
As part of the IASO Thessalias Scientific Programme 2025–2026, a scientific lecture focusing on key developments in perinatal and neonatal medicine was successfully held in a hybrid format. The event was coordinated by Dr Apostolos Komnos, Medical Director of IASO Thessalias, together with Dimitris Netskos, Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The first presentation, delivered by Evangelia Karapatoli, Paediatrician–Neonatologist and Scientific Associate of the NICU, explored perinatal infections and their impact on pregnancy and neonatal health. The lecture highlighted transmission pathways, preventive measures, prenatal screening and the importance of early diagnosis.
The second presentation was delivered by Vaios Bempes, Paediatrician–Neonatologist and Scientific Associate of the NICU, focusing on delayed umbilical cord clamping and its association with gestational age. Recent scientific evidence and the documented benefits of this practice, particularly for premature infants, were presented.
The NICU of IASO Thessalias, the only private Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Central Greece, continues to provide highly specialized neonatal care while actively supporting scientific education and clinical excellence.
