Congenital heart diseases are not rare in newborns, since about 1% of newborns are born with a heart abnormality. If the child is born with congenital heart disease, they now have a very good chance of living a normal adult life. This depends on early and correct diagnosis combined with early and correct treatment. Early diagnosis and treatment dramatically improve their final outcome.

At IASO Thessalias, as part of the newborn's optional examinations, it is possible to carry out a cardiac screening (cardiac clinical examination & TRIPLEX cardiac ultrasound), which is conducted by an experienced, specialized Pediatric Cardiologist. It takes place in the nursery of the Maternity floor. It complements the prenatal cardiology examination and provides the possibility of informing the parents, as well as the treating Pediatrician, of ruling out cardiac problems of the newborn. In case there is a cardiac problem present, after the detailed briefing of the parents, the therapeutic treatment is carried out or the appropriate instructions for treatment and follow-up on an external basis are given.
