Aortic Valve Stenosis: From pathophysiology to modern treatment
IASO Thessalias hosted a scientific lecture dedicated to aortic valve stenosis, one of the most common and clinically significant valvular heart diseases, as part of its ongoing Scientific Lectures 2025–2026 programme.
The lecture was delivered by Prodromos Rigalidis, Cardiologist and Consultant at the 1st Cardiology Department of IASO Thessalias, who presented current scientific evidence regarding the causes, diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
Topics included the pathophysiology and natural progression of aortic stenosis, clinical symptoms and the role of echocardiography as the cornerstone of diagnosis. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of early identification of high-risk patients.
The lecture also reviewed modern treatment options, including Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement (SAVR) and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), according to contemporary international guidelines and patient selection criteria.
