Prevention of venous thromboembolism in modern clinical practice
IASO Thessalias hosted a scientific lecture addressing contemporary guidelines for the prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in surgical patients, highlighting one of the most important preventable causes of hospital-related complications.
The lecture was delivered by Theodoros Tsiganis, Vascular Surgeon and Director of the 2nd Vascular Surgery Department, together with Ioannis Angelakas, Honorary Director of the same department.
The speakers presented the latest evidence regarding venous thromboembolic disease, emphasizing patient risk assessment and preventive strategies, including both pharmacological and mechanical thromboprophylaxis.
Current international recommendations were reviewed across different patient groups, including general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, pregnancy and the postpartum period, highlighting the importance of individualized prevention and early intervention.
