First unicompartmental knee arthroplasty in Greece using the NAVIO 7 robotic-assisted system

The IASO Thessalias 1st Orthopedic Clinic for Robotic Surgery of the Musculoskeletal System successfully performed the first unicompartmental knee arthroplasty in Greece, using the NAVIO 7 robotic system, headed by Mr. Konstantinos Makridis, MD, MSc, PCaosD, PhD (certified robotic system user) and Mr. Miltiadis Georgousis, MD, MSc, PhD (certified robotic system user)

The procedure was performed on a 49-year-old patient, who suffered from severe osteoarthritis in the medial compartment of the knee. Symptoms included intense pain and varus knee, rendering any physical activity very painful. Using 3D imaging and mapping the problem and anatomy of the knee perioperatively, implants were only placed in the affected area with maximum accuracy (medial compartment of the knee, unicompartmental knee arthroplasty).

The kinematics, axis and function of the knee were greatly restored and the patient was able to walk on the afternoon of the same day. He was discharged 24 hours later and was even able to walk down the Hospital stairs unassisted.
