Episiotomy and repair of obstetric perineal lacerations are the most frequent surgical procedures in obstetrics. Evidence-based knowledge of the indications, techniques of episiotomy and the correct treatment of perineal lacerations are particularly important elements for ensuring the proper functioning of the pelvic floor and avoiding complications, such as urinary and fecal incontinence, chronic pain and pelvic organ prolapse.
Speakers with expertise will present lectures on perineal care during pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium. The practical part includes demonstration and hands-on practice of techniques for repairing episiotomies and severe sphincter injuries in fresh tissues. The structure of the seminar and the surgical suturing techniques coincide with the internationally accredited training program of the Mayday University Hospital, St George's University of London for the treatment of obstetric perineal lacerations.
