  • Is “Rooming in” allowed across all ward classes?

We facilitate and encourage “Rooming In” practice, i.e. a mother can have her baby in her room on a 24-hour basis. The service applies to all ward classes and is free of charge.

Adopting this practice contributes to successful, free and unlimited breastfeeding. In addition, to ongoing mother-baby contact helps build their relationship and establishes their bonding.

  • What if I need help on Breastfeeding after my discharge from the Clinic?

Upon your discharge from the Clinic, an assessment is conducted on the progress of both the mother and the baby on Breastfeeding, through a special assessment form. Within the context of this evaluation, it should be confirmed that the mother knows:

    • When her baby wants to breastfeed
    • How to position her baby correctly on her breast to avoid any pain during breastfeeding
    • How to choose a comfortable position to breastfeed
    • When her baby swallows
    • When her baby is full and if the amount of breast milk is sufficient
    • The way to express milk either manually or with a pump
    • The correct procedure for collecting and preserving breast milk
    • Information on the mechanism of lactation
    • When to call for a Pediatrician

  • How can I exclusively breastfeed?

Successful breastfeeding strongly depends on early breastfeeding onset.

We provide all the help we can to assist you in initiating breastfeeding soon after childbirth. We see that the baby comes into skin-to-skin contact with the mother in order to establish breastfeeding and enhance mother-baby bonding.

Upon request, psychological support is provided by a psychology consultant either during your hospital stay or after your discharge from the Clinic.

HOW TO RECEIVE THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND AMKA OF YOUR NEWBORN

You will receive your newborn’s Social Security Number (AMKA) by SMS on your mobile and it will also be written on the Birth Certificate. The Birth Certificate may be downloaded from www.gov.gr or obtained from a Citizens' Service Center (KEP) or from the Marousi Registry Office (open for the public Monday to Thursday, 08:30-14:00). The Marousi Registry Office is open by appointment for any other services (e.g. name-giving, recognition of child, etc.).

You will receive your newborn’s AMKA by SMS and it will also be written on the Birth Certificate.

You must immediately forward it to IASO before being discharged, so that you may be entitled to use EOPYY, your social insurance fund. Especially if the newborn is admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or a ward to undergo surgery, you must produce their AMKA prior to the newborn’s admission, so that they are entitled to use EOPYY.

  • What kind of documents do I need to bring?

    • Social Security Number (AMKA) (If you are not directly insured with EOPYY, you need to know the AMKA of the person who is directly insured).
    • Both parents’ original national ID cards and photocopies thereof.
    • An original and recent Certificate of Marriage (issued no earlier than 6 months) and a photocopy thereof; you can receive the Certificate of Marriage from the Registry Office your marriage was registered at or from a Citizens’ Service Center (KEP), in which case you must also provide a photocopy of the relevant application form. Both parents’ Social Security Numbers (AMKA) and Tax Identification Numbers, and the mother’s IBAN are also required.
    • In case there is no marriage, the Registration of Birth is solely carried out by the mother with her national ID card and a Family Status Certificate (issued no earlier than six 6 months). The Family Status Certificate may be obtained from the Municipality where she exercises her right to vote or a Citizens’ Service Center (KEP). The mother’s Social Security Number (AMKA), Tax Identification Number and IBAN are also required.
    • In the event that there is no marriage and the mother is divorced, the Declaration of Birth is made exclusively by the mother with her identity card and the original and recent (issued no earlier than 6 months) Marriage Certificate with the dissolution (that is to say the divorce) and for 300 days to have passed from the date, where the dissolution is stated as irrevocable, as well as a family status certificate (issued within 6 months) or a certificate from the Citizens’ Service Center (KEP). The mother’s Social Security Number (AMKA), Tax Identification Number and IBAN are also required.
    • In case a child is born in civil partnership, both parents must produce their national ID cards, an original and recent Civil Partnership Certificate (issued no earlier than 6 months), registered at the Registry Office, their Social Security Numbers (AMKA) and Tax Identification Numbers, and the mother’s IBAN.

In case their wedding took place in a foreign country, they must produce an original Certificate of Marriage and an original and official translation of it into Greek (translated no earlier than 6 months). The full names of both parents must be clearly indicated on the Certificate of Marriage, and these must also be translated into Greek. The translation may be carried out by the Translation Service of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the corresponding Greek consular authority in the country where the certificate was issued, or by an authorized Greek attorney.
